A Brain Injury can happen in just a moment, but the effects can last a lifetime. Brain Injury does not discriminate; although you can take certain precautions to protect yourself, it can happen to anyone, at any age and at anytime:
People affected by brain injury can struggle against overwhelming odds to re-establish themselves in their altered lives. It can affect not just them but everyone around them:
Serious Brain Injury can cause complex and unique changes to an individual – physically, cognitively and behaviourally, which are all difficult to grasp let alone overcome.
Unfortunately in spite of technological advances, still no miracle cures have been found and the aftercare of someone with a brain injury can leave both the patient and more often the carer confused and isolated.
Headway’s overall mission is to to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers.
